Breast imaging and biopsy techniques have improved dramatically in the past few years with higher resolution images and less invasive biopsy procedures. At your appointment, we will review and discuss your mammography and/or ultrasound results. These results and our expertise will help us determine which biopsy procedure, if one is necessary, is the most appropriate. We’re committed to having a biopsy result available within one week of the procedure but we usually get back to you within 3-4 days. Do remember that 80% of breast biopsies are found to be negative. Our breast surgeon specialists can obtain highly accurate and precise results with core needle biopsy or Mammotome® techniques using either ultrasound or 3-D image-guided technology. Both techniques are minimally invasive, performed in an outpatient setting and often take less than an hour. When necessary, we do perform traditional surgical biopsy, particularly when a mass needs to be removed. Remember to bring your mammogram films with you to your appointment. Commonwealth Surgeons who perform Breast Surgery: Dr. Cohen, Dr. Parker and Dr. Bautista perform Mammotome ® All of our surgeons perform core needle and traditional surgical biopsy procedures. |
